Quinoa Turkey Burgers

In an effort to cut down on our grocery bill, as well as add more healthful grains to our diet, I have been playing with Quinoa in my kitchen.

Quinoa has a great texture to replace ground meats in soups, stews, tacos, egg rolls, etc.  It is a complete protein and high in many vitamins and minerals as well as a good source of fiber.  It tastes great and can be used in both savory and sweet dishes.

Last week I made these yummy Quinoa Turkey burgers for dinner.  I served them just like this with a salad.  However they would be terrific on a bun with all your traditional burger toppings, or even topped with coleslaw!

I would normally get 5 burgers out of a pound of ground turkey breast, making them this way I doubled that!  10 tasty burgers that are healthier for you!

Here is your easy printable recipe... Quinoa Turkey Burgers.

Preheat your grill on hight heat.  Add equal parts of ground turkey breast and cooked quinoa to a bowl.

Add about 1/4 Cup of pizza sauce, seasoned tomato sauce or pasta sauce...whatever you have on hand.  Also add 1/2 - 3/4 C. shredded mozzerella (or other cheese)... (not shown..ooops). :)

Mix this all together gently...

Form into patties...

Get your seasonings out..

I LOVE this smoked Paprika.. don't use regular paprika for this recipe, you need to go out and get some of this...it's incredible! :)

Season both sides with seasonings, generously patting the paprika onto the patties.

Ready to hit the fire!

With the flame on pretty high, grill both sides of the patties (with the lid closed)  for 1-2 minutes...

You want them to sear just slightly...be careful turning them, they are still kinda tender at this point.

Once they are seared.  Turn off one of the burners.  Move all the patties to the OFF side of the grill.  Keep the other burner on med-high to high.  Grill (with the lid closed) 5 minutes on each side, rotating the patties when you turn them so they cook evenly..

During the last 2 minutes of cooking time, spread some homemade BBQ sauce on top of them...

I forgot to put the cheese in my "Photo Batch", and this one fell apart.  Cheese adds moisture and helps to hold them together.

Enjoy!
